Editing & Revising Drafts

Refine your newsletter through conversational editing.

Conversational Editing

After generating a draft, you can ask the bot to make changes using natural language. Just describe what you want, and the AI will revise the draft accordingly.

Example edit requests:

  • "Make it shorter"
  • "Use a more casual tone"
  • "Add more detail about the product launch"
  • "Remove the section about engineering updates"
  • "Change the subject line to something catchier"

Types of Edits You Can Request

Length & Format

  • make it shorter — Condense the content
  • expand the intro — Add more detail to a section
  • add bullet points — Change formatting
  • split into more sections — Reorganize content

Tone & Voice

  • make it more casual — Friendlier language
  • more professional tone — Formal business language
  • add more personality — Make it sound human
  • less salesy — Tone down marketing speak

Content Changes

  • remove the third section — Delete content
  • add a section about X — Include new content
  • highlight the customer win more — Emphasize specific content
  • move the links to the end — Reorganize

Updating Your Default Instructions

If you find yourself making the same edits every time, you can update your default content instructions. When you request an edit, the bot may suggest saving it as a permanent preference:

You: "Make it more casual"

Bot: "Done! I've made the tone more conversational. Would you like me to remember this for future newsletters? Say 'yes' to update your instructions."

Respond with:

  • "yes" — Save this preference to your content instructions
  • "no" — Keep it just for this draft
  • "don't ask" — Stop asking about instruction updates

Viewing & Managing Instructions via Slack

You can also manage your content instructions directly from Slack:

  • instructions — View your current content instructions
  • settings — Same as above, shows your configuration

For full control over your instructions, visit the Agent tab in your Slackletter dashboard.

Starting Over

If the draft isn't working out, you can start fresh:

  • cancel — Cancel the current draft
  • Then say generate to start a new one

Note: Saying generate while a draft is active will remind you to cancel first.
