Getting Started

Getting Started with Slackletter

Learn how to automate your newsletter creation from Slack. This guide walks you through connecting your workspace, selecting channels, and generating your first draft.

Step 1: Sign in with Slack

Visit slackletter.com and click "Sign up with Slack". This will redirect you to Slack to authorize the Slackletter app in your workspace.

During authorization, you'll grant Slackletter permission to:

  • Read messages from channels you select
  • Send direct messages to you (for delivering drafts)
  • Access your profile information

Note: Slackletter only reads from channels you explicitly select. It never accesses private channels or DMs unless you add them.

Step 2: Select Channels to Monitor

After signing in, you'll land on the Connections page. Here, select which Slack channels the bot should pull content from when generating newsletters.

Good channels to include:

  • #announcements — Product launches, company news
  • #wins or #celebrations — Customer success stories
  • #links or #interesting-reads — Articles your team shared
  • #engineering or #product — Technical updates worth sharing

You can always add or remove channels later from the dashboard.

Step 3: Connect Your Email Platform (Optional)

Connect an email platform to send your finished drafts directly to your subscribers. Slackletter supports:

  • Notion — Save drafts as Notion pages
  • Beehiiv — Create newsletter drafts
  • Mailchimp — Create email campaigns
  • Kit (ConvertKit) — Create broadcasts
  • EmailOctopus — Create campaigns
  • Customer.io — Create newsletters
  • Ghost — Create blog posts

Don't worry if you're not ready to connect a platform yet—you can still generate drafts and copy them manually.

Step 4: Generate Your First Newsletter

You're all set! Open Slack and send a direct message to the Slackletter bot:

generate

The bot will analyze recent messages from your selected channels and create a newsletter draft. This usually takes 30-60 seconds depending on how much content there is.

Once the draft is ready, you can:

  • Review it and ask for changes ("make it shorter", "add more detail about X")
  • Approve it and upload to your email platform
  • Start over with new parameters
