Generating a Newsletter
Create newsletter drafts from your Slack conversations with a single command.
Starting a New Draft
To generate a newsletter, open a direct message with the Slackletter bot in Slack and type:
generate
The bot will:
- Fetch recent messages from your selected channels (last 7 days by default)
- Analyze the content for interesting updates, links, and announcements
- Generate a formatted newsletter draft following your instructions
- Send the draft back to you in the DM

What Gets Included
Slackletter automatically identifies and prioritizes:
- Announcements — Important updates and news
- Links — Articles, resources, and references shared by your team
- Discussions — Interesting conversations worth highlighting
- Wins & Milestones — Customer success, achievements, launches
The AI is smart about filtering out:
- Casual chit-chat and off-topic messages
- Internal process discussions
- Sensitive or private information
- Duplicate content
Understanding Your Draft
Once generated, your draft will include:
- Subject line — A suggested email subject
- Formatted content — Organized into sections based on your instructions
- Links preserved — All shared URLs are maintained
From here, you can:
- Request edits (see Editing Newsletters)
- Upload to your email platform (see Publishing)
- Copy the content manually
Tips for Better Newsletters
- Choose the right channels — The more focused your channel selection, the better the output.
- Customize your instructions — Update your content instructions to match your newsletter's voice.
- Generate regularly — Weekly generation keeps content fresh and manageable.
